“Finding Betty Crocker” is a book of free verse poems by Amy Alexander that illustrates the tensions of a housewife living in an era when housewives are expected to create a vast illusion, an illusion that carries the family and culture forward. It is an illusion that has yet to be broken in American life, this notion that the mother’s sole existence is based on her serving others, and never having the chance to do her own creative work, for her. As a poet, it is interesting to play with the tension that occurs when the illusion of the housewife in the perfect home collides with the vast interior universe of the housewife herself.
This blog chronicles my journey, as a writer, to read from and promote my book, as well as a place where people can come to express their thoughts about the book.
